Hey all,

Check out the video that I put together of the Buck Pictures that I have gotten off my Cuddeback Capture over the past couple of months. There are some pretty good bucks in here, and couple of bruisers. You will even see a couple of shots of bucks chasing does.

I've always been partial to game cameras with infrared, so that I can capture video and video at night. But I have to tell you that I have had a lot of fun with this Cuddeback Capture. It has been a solid camera for me, and I couldn't ask for anything more as far as the performance goes. The $25 rebate that Cuddeback offered on the Capture is what brought me to finally test it. The trigger is incredibly fast, and the image centering yields some great pictures.

Hope you enjoy this video. I recently purchased a Mac laptop, and it was a piece of cake to put together.

After viewing, please subscribe to my Scouting Camera YouTube channel to see more videos. Please leave a comment on the video, and click the Like button (thumbs up) under the video if you enjoyed it. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks and enjoy!

OK, by now I guess it's no secret that I really have been enjoying my testing with the Cuddeback Capture. The fact that my last few posts have been about the Capture probably gives that away... Since I have written about the rebate recently, I have received many questions about problems with the rebate process. The rebate is good on purchases made on the Capture and Capture IR up until 04/30/2011. But you need to pay attention to detail when filling out the rebate form...

I wanted to share a few tips to make sure your experience with the rebate process is a good one. I received a rebate check for my Cuddeback Capture this week, so I know the process is good if followed correctly.

The first link you will want to check is here: http://cuddeback.com/2010rebate.html . This page will walk you through the steps for the rebate form submission.

I got my rebate form at the retail location where I purchased the game camera. But you can find the same printable form online here: http://cuddeback.com/images/Rebates_and_offers/7_2010_Rebate_2.pdf .

Make sure you fill out the name, address, phone number, date, email131913191319 address, where it was purchased from, and the date that it was purchased. You need to be aware that Cuddeback cameras purchased from eBAY or Craigslist are not eligible for the rebate. There are actually only specific Authorized Online Dealers that you can purchase a Cuddeback Capture from and still be eligible for the rebate. Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, Gander Mountain and other popular online outdoor retailers. No Paypal receipts will be accepted.

Make sure you check the proper box for the model of camera that you are submitting the rebate for (i.e. Capture or Capture IR). You will need to include the serial number for your camera. Many people have had trouble locating this. Here is a link that will show you exactly where to find the Cuddeback Capture Serial Number.

You will need to include the Proof of Purchase from the packaging. Now this is something I had a lot of trouble locating myself, because I didn't have one on my packaging. I called Cuddeback directly at 920-347-3810, and after determining that the Proof of Purchase was missing, they offered mail131913191319 one right out to me. I had to provide the serial number from the camera, but after doing so, I had the Proof of Purchase in my hands in 3 or 4 days. This will be a red or gold sticker that says "Capture IR $50 Rebate" or "Capture $25 Rebate". Beneath that, it will say "Proof of Purchase".

Cut the UPC code from the packaging, and include it. This will be the bar code that gets scanned at checkout.

Include the Cash Register receipt that contains the store name, and the qualifying camera that you purchased circled on that receipt. Make sure you include the bar code for that purchase, and ensure that the date purchased is between July 01, 2010 to April 30, 2011.

I appreciate the help that Cuddeback offered me during this rebate process, and hope that these tips are just as helpful to you.

It must be that time of year, because I don't know about you, but I've been seeing a lot of nice bucks recently. I've seen some signs of bucks starting to chase does as well. I don't think they have really turned on yet, but they are getting there.
I've been testing the Cuddeback Capture behind my house over the last month or so, and I have to say that I am definitely impressed with it. You can see more information about this game camera's capabilities here: Cuddeback Capture Review. I've always been partial to infrared digital game cameras, because I love the ability to capture video images of game, especially at night when the activity is much higher. I like to know what is lurking after dark, because those are the bucks that you will typically end up seeing during the day when that rut kicks in and they start dropping their guard. Video lets you see more details at better angles as the game moves through, and you don't get to see just the lead deer, you get to see the ones that are following as well.
But with that said, this Cuddeback Capture is HOT, even those it only captures pictures and no video. This flash-based digital game camera is so simple to set up and use. So easy that a caveman can do it, as the commercial says. The rotary dials used to set the cameras settings had me up and running in seconds.
The trigger speed of the Cuddeback Capture and the Image Centering Technology are what I am most impressed with. I have captured numerous pictures of game on the move that are quality images with no blur. Many other game cameras with slower trigger speeds would have missed the shot all together, or given me a picture of a hind quarter. The Image Centering Technology gives you quality picture after picture of the game positioned in the center of the frame. I find myself sifting through more quality pictures with the Cuddeback Capture, than I do with any other game camera I own.
So take a look at the picture below I captured two days ago with the Cuddeback Capture. This 11 point buck will definitely have an arrow sent his way if he finds himself under my stand.

Note that I dropped the image size and quality down to 640x480 for the purposes of posting to the blog. These images are normally 2048x1536 when they come off the camera, showing much greater detail. Cuddeback still has their $25.00 rebate available on this camera. See this post for more information: Cuddeback Capture Rebate.

I've always been a fan of the infrared digital game cameras, but picked up this Cuddeback Capture when they offered the rebates on them.
I have to say that I am pretty impressed with the picture quality, the image centering technology, and the overall performance of this game camera.

I've received a lot of questions recently asking where to find the serial number on the Cuddeback Capture and Cuddeback Capture IR. Cuddeback's recent rebate offering of a $25.00 rebate on the Capture and a $50.00 rebate on the Capture IR obviously have people taking advantage of it.
I searched for it for a few seconds on my own Cuddeback Capture, before I realized that I had hidden the serial number. You should be able to find your unit's serial number in the left battery tube. Yup, you will have to take your batteries out to find it if you already have the installed.
See the picture below for the exact location. And make sure you read the directions on the rebate form and fill it out to a "T". I've heard from a couple of people who were denied due to errors. But Cuddeback was gracious enough to give them another shot at it.
Enjoy

You already know that Cuddeback is one of the most respected names in the game camera industry. So you also know that their price point starts at $199 and goes up from there. Well, I ran across some good news today. A Cuddeback Digital Trail Camera Rebate is available on two of their most popular models. The Cuddeback Capture (Flash Digital Camera) and the Cuddeback Capture IR (Infrared Digital Camera).

These two trail cameras have a super simple set up, and a hair trigger of less than 1/3 of a second.

Just in time to start scouting for the upcoming bow season, you can get at $25 rebate on the Cuddeback Capture, and a $50 rebate on the Cuddeback Capture IR.

There are some stipulations, such as filling out a rebate form, supplying the store receipt and UPC symbol from the box, the serial number, etc. But these are simple steps to put $25 or $50 back in your pocket.

Access the Cuddeback Digital Trail Camera Rebate by clicking on this link.

You have between 07/01/2010 - 12/31/2010 to make your purchase to be eligible for the rebate.

And hey, when you get that new Cuddeback, contact me and share any interesting pictures you capture.

Good luck and enjoy the rebate!

I received an email131913191319 from a friend in Canada that I have been swapping game camera pics with. There were no pictures in this message this time. Instead, he told me that his Cuddeback Capture IR was out of commission.

It seems that a bear came across his camera, and appearently did a number on it. It had been ripped from the tree and appeared to have been gnawed on a bit. It won't even power on at this point. He obviously didn't have his Capture IR in a bear-proof security box. Bears are very curious creatures and their sheer power can turn their curiosity into severe damage. You need to be very cautious of scent when placing a game camera in bear territory, especially if you are baiting them. If you get the scent of the bait on your camera, I can guarantee you that the bear will be very interested in it.

For me, not living in an area with bears, I typically just have to worry about game camera theft, not damage from wildlife. To protect your game camera from destruction by bear, you really need a security box that is engineered with the bear in mind.

So if you are in the market for a security box to protect from bear damage for your Cuddeback Capture IR, then check out the following link for the lowest prices: Cuddeback Capture IR Bear Safe Box .

You will find some heavy duty, all metal, bear safe enclosures designed specifically to protect the Capture IR. These security boxes can be secured to the tree with lag bolts. Once your game camera is placed inside, the cover is replaced, and a padlock can be added to secure your camera from damage or theft.

If you are considering purchasing a digital game camera, but you are concerned that you may not be technically inclined enough to use one, then consider a Cuddeback. Cuddeback is a premium game camera manufacturer. They load their digital scouting cameras up with many useful features, but that isn't the only place that they excel. They also excel in educating their owners on how to properly and effectively use their digital game cameras.
Forget about reading the manual for your new Cuddeback. You don't need it. Just go online, and watch the series of Cuddeback Manual videos on their website. They have produced a series of 44 videos that walk you through all of the features and ways to use their cameras. The videos start off slow, and walk you through the introduction to their cameras, installing batteries, setting the date and time, etc. Then they progress through the advanced features like setting up your name and phone number in the camera's electronics, setting operating hours for the camera, taking pictures manually, and more. It is like having your own tutor to teach you how to use your Cuddeback.
Another great benefit of the Video Tutorials is that prospective buyers can get familiar with the Cuddeback trail camera before actually purchasing it. You can see what it takes to set it up, configure it, and use all the features, and this can help you determine if a Cuddeback is right for you. If it is, browse our selection of discount Cuddeback game cameras and let them do your scouting for you.

I love the added features that premium game camera manufacturers add to their systems. One of my favorite though, is the TheftStop Plus features that Cuddeback game cameras provide. You will find this feature on the Cuddeback NoFlash, and Cuddeback Expert. When I look at useful features like this, I wonder why every game camera manufacturer isn't following suit and adding similar capabilities.

Any game camera thief that knows their Cuddeback cameras should know enough that it isn't worth trying to steal one. TheftStop plus is a security system for Cuddeback cameras. It provides password protection, and writes your name and phone number into the electronics of the camera. The text that you program into the camera is embedded on each image that the camera captures.

Cuddeback cameras feature a system of two passwords. One is the owner's password, and another one is the lock password. The lock password can be given to a guest or friend so they can use your camera without knowing the owner password. The guest password provides limited access, and does not allow the personalize information or passwords to be modified by the guest.

By default, the lock password is set to all zeros on new Cuddeback cameras. When set to all zeros, the camera does not lock, and you are not required to enter a password to use the camera. I highly recommend that you set a unique lock password, to ensure that it cannot be used by people unknown to you.

If every game camera manufacturer used electronic security on their digital game cameras, then game camera theft might cease to be an issue. Until then, I'll keep buying security boxes and security cables to secure my investments. I've had a game camera stolen in the past. As the new technology increases the price of premium game cameras, I don't want to find myself in that boat again.
