I went to set my new Moultrie I45 infrared digital game camera in the woods behind the house tonight, and I made a disturbing discovery. The lock hole on the camera housing is too small to accept a standard long shank padlock.

My buddies tell me I'm crazy sometimes, but I'm not crazy enough to leave a brand new $249.00 game camera in the woods unsecured. I'm in a residential area that borders a nice section of woods, but on occasion, there is some foot traffic through that area. I'm not willing to take the chance of losing another game camera, especially this one.

So far, this is the only big flaw I can see with the I45. I wish all the game camera manufacturers would get their acts together and focus on some more simple security measures ... like lock holes large enough to accept a real lock.

I did some searching online, and I haven't been able to find anyone making a good lock box for the I45 yet. I even checked Moultrie's site, and couldn't find a lock box that stated it supported the I45. I've heard some bad things about their older lock boxes, and the one they currently have on their site only references the I40 and I60 as related products.

So I called the good people at CamLockBox.com. I had visited their website, and didn't see a model that supported the I45 yet. They told me that they have received their I45 and I65 cameras, and are currently working on a new lockbox for them. They anticipate having them ready in about 2 weeks (around the first week of October). This was good news to me, as I own CamLockBox cases for other models of cameras, and I love them. These things are designed rock solid, and because of the way the case interlocks, there is no way it's coming apart, unless you have the key.

I'll be first in line to get mine.

Stealth cam has released a handy new memory card viewer that no game camera enthusiast should be without. It is the Stealth Cam Memory Card Viewer model STC-CRV20.

This handy little viewer has a two inch LTPS LCD screen that allows you to view the images and videos on your memory card, without using a PC. This remote viewer is small enough to fit in your pocket, and powerful enough to let you view your pictures and videos on the spot.

It has two SDRAM memory card slots, that supports up to 2 GB memory cards. The memory slots also allow you to copy and move images and videos from one memory card to another. So as you check on your game cameras, you can pull the pictures off your memory cards on the spot, consolidate them to a single SDRAM card, and place the original memory card right back into your game camera. This eliminates the need to purchase a bunch of extra memory cards to swap in and out of your game cameras.

I like the fact the the STC-CRV20 gives you a 4X zoom, which allows you to enlarge the details of your images. The vertical and horizontal panning while zoomed in really gives you the ability to study all details of your images.

This memory card viewer runs on four AA batteries in the field, and can be powered by a 6V adapter from your home. As an added bonus, the STC-CRV20 can be connected to your PC to serve as a memory card reader for your computer. This will allow you to transfer images from your memory cards directly to your PC.

The thing I like best about this new gadget, is that you no longer have to wait to view your images. You get immediate gratification. This easy-to-use device is a must have!

A fanatical bowhunter from Alaska commonly comes in contact with Black and Brown Bears. Bears are notorious for putting a hurtin' on game cameras. Some security boxes even have a hard time standing up to them. So this guy developed a steel game camera box that is lag-bolted to the tree, and covered with nasty, sharp spikes.

I hop this guy patented the idea. Check out his bear proof security box.

Ok, so this isn't actually a game camera, but it is so cool, I had to write about it. Besides, it is made my a game camera manufacturer ...

Stealth Cam, the popular scouting camera manufacturer has taken a small leap into the security camera market. I say small leap, because they have taken their game camera technology, integrated it into a security flood light, and named it the STEALTH CAM PATROLLER.

This is a natural progression for Stealth Cam, and a fit that really makes sense for them. I've written in the past about using game cameras for surveillance, but now Stealth Cam has filled the gap with an affordable security device. You can now get affordable home or business surveillance for under $125.00.

Why do I like this idea so much? Well criminals are used to coming in contact with motion detector lights. It typically scares them off, or down the street to victimize another home or auto. Often the activation of security lights is never even realized by the home owner, who may be fast asleep. Most motion detector lights are only a temporary deterrent. A thief's crime spree will continue until he is caught. Most criminals today don't anticipate that they may be getting videoed or photographed when they trip a security light though. Having the ability to prove a crime with video evidence, or to be able to provide the police with a picture of the suspect can be critical to putting an early end to the crime spree.

So what is the Stealth Cam Patroller, and what does it do?

It is a hard-wired, 500 watt halogen security light, with a 2.0 MP camera integrated into the housing. It is capable of triggering an activation when a subject enters within up to 50 feet of the Patroller's passive infared sensor. Once activated, the camera will take multiple pictures, or shoot 10 second digital video clips.

It features:

A built-in 2.0 megapixel color digital camera

a 500 watt security light with a halogen bulb which has a coverage range of 180 degrees.

A highly reflective cone for maximum brightness.

It has an LCD screen for programming and status information.

It swivels in order to get the perfect coverage and positioning.

Passive infrared sensor that detections subjects out to 50 feet.

You can shoot multiple pictures or video when activated.

The light can be programmed to stay on for 1 - 5 minutes during each activation.

The date and time are stamped on each picture or video.

Up to a 2 GB SD memory card can be used to capture a several thousand pictures, or over a thousand video clips.

Easily mounts to an existing or new junction box, and are available in black or white.

The Stealth Cam Patroller is worth considering for peace of mind and for the protection of your family and property. I received an email131913191319 from our neighborhood association earlier this week stating that several vehicles had been burglarized in our neighborhood and an ajoining neghborhood a few nights ago.

It makes me wonder if someone was outside my house checking my truck doors to see if they were unlocked? If I had a Stealth Cam Patroller installed, I would know the answer to that question.

It can be tough, especially as all the new vegetation comes in the Spring and the landscape takes on a different look. Or how about locating your tree stand in the dark? Well if you have a Moultrie MFH-CACT Camera Activator attached to your Game Spy M40, M60, I40 or I60, then your problems are solved.

The Camera Activator is a remote control key fob that allows you to remotely activate your trail camera. You can force your camera to take pictures at the press of a button, or it can be used to make your camera emit LED pulses.

This is an inexpensive add-on that can be very handy.

Do you own a Moultrie Game Camera? Well how would you like to say goodbye to batteries ... Forever?

Well if you own a Moultrie MFH-CPP Power Panel, you will never have to worry about changing batteries again. The moultrie power panel is a solar panel and 12 volt battery in one. Moultrie really went the extra mile when designing the MFH-CPP. It contains an LCD display that show that gives you feedback about its operation. The real-time solar value helps you mount the power panel to allow it to operate most efficiently. It also tracks daily and weekly solar efficiency status. You can see the internal battery charge level as well.

This weather resistant solar panel comes with a 10 foot cord. This allows you the ability to mount the MFH-CPP in the best location for optimal sunlight. The panel can be easily mounted to a tree, pole, post, you name it.

The Moultrie Power Panel will work with all Moultrie 2007 game cameras and later, and when you consider the cost of replacing batteries, it is a very economical decision. Consider the Moultrie D-40 game camera that operates for approximately 60 days on 6 D cell batteries. If you run your camera year round, you will need approximately 36 batteries for the year. You can pick up an 8 pack of Duracell D cell batteries for approximately $10.00. So that takes about 4.5 of the 8 packs of batteries each year, or about $50.00 with tax. The retail price of the MFH-CPP is $89.99, but you can often find a deal on them for $50.00 - $60.00.

Check for Deals on Moultrie Power Panel

If you place your Moultrie in a remote location, the MFH-CPP can ensure continuous operation and no dead batteries. Let's face it, there is nothing more frustrating than going to check your game camera, finding dead batteries, and wondering how many days of lost pictures you have suffered. With the Moutrie Power Panel, that's a thing of the past.

Buckeye Cam sells a really neat long range wireless game camera system called the Buckeye Cam Oriion PC. The PC Base Kit allows you to send images from up to 30 cameras at once, directly to your PC. With a range of up to 2 miles, you no longer have to venture into the woods to gather your digital pictures and videos. This is definitely a high tech system, and it is used by the US and Canadian Border Patrol agencies to gather surveillance for their border control efforts.

While this is very cool technology, I have a hard time getting past the price tag of $1899. It does come with a 1 year warranty, but if I'm going to pay $1,899 for a game camera, I'd like to see it come with at least a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, like the Jeep I purchased from a local dealer.

As other game camera manufacturers enter the remote game camera market with lower cost cellular options (like Moultrie with their Game Spy Connect), I see the Orion PC Base Camera Kit being a tough sell. I think that there will always be a market out there for high end products, because there are people out there with more money than they know what to do with. It will be interesting to see if Buckeye Cam continues with their current price model, or if the new cellular game camera options will force them into a price drop. With the Moultrie Game Spy Connect hitting the market in July of 2009, I guess we will see soon.

STC-6VBB
This is the 6-volt battery kit. It is also compatible with any Stealth Cam trail camera that has an external power jack. It comes with the same accessories and benefits as the STC-12VBB listed above.

STC-DECWD
So you don't like the solid green or black color that most Stealth Cam game cameras come in by default? Worried that your Stealth Cam is too visible in the woods? Well then dress it up with a RealTree adhesive decal. This decal is made from long lasting 3M non-reflective adhesive. It will not fade, even under extreme weather conditions. It is a cost-effective solution to camouflaging any of your Stealth Cam digital game cameras.

Wrap Around Lock Brackets

You spend too much money on your digital game camera to not secure it from theft. I've had a game camera stolen before, and will never leave one in the woods again without locking it down. The Wrap Around Lock Brackets are an effective way to secure your Stealth Cam from theft. It isn't going to stop a thief with a set of cable or lock cutters, but it will prevent crimes of opportunity. They are available for all Stealth Cam digital and 35mm camera models. It uses durable steel plates that wrap around the camera, securing it from would-be thieves. It uses a 4 foot long, heavy-duty 6mm diameter cable to secure your camera to the tree. You supply your own lock and key. There are different brackets to support different models of cameras:

You've been in the situation too. You've found that perfect trail where you want to hang your digital game camera, but there are no good and straight trees near. Well, now you can leave the bungee cords and straps at home and hang your trail camera quickly and easily with the EZ Point Trail Camera Mounting Bracket.
And best of all, you can get a perfect angle because this mounting bracket swivels and allows you to lock it in place. Exactly where you want it too. These brackets are made from durable plastic with a connecting steel rod. They are very solid.

So the next time you strap your game camera to a crooked tree, and start propping sticks under it to get the right angle, think about how easy it would be to hang it with the EZ Point instead. I love mine, and I'm ordering two more for my other game cams.

Watch this short video that will show you how easy it is to use this game camera mount. Then visit the link above to order yours. They are a Steal at less than $10.00.

These handy mounts give you perfect placement for your game cam to ensure you get the best shots. With the ability to swivel left to right, and up & down, you gain a lot of flexibility when choosing your mounting location. There are some post mounts available that allow you to set up your camera anywhere.

I like to have more brackets that I have cameras. It gives me the ability to easily move my cameras back and forth between multiple areas that I'm scouting. It guarantees that I can get back in and out of an area quickly, without disturbing it too much.
