The $1,900 Game Camera

Buckeye Cam sells a really neat long range wireless game camera system called the Buckeye Cam Oriion PC. The PC Base Kit allows you to send images from up to 30 cameras at once, directly to your PC. With a range of up to 2 miles, you no longer have to venture into the woods to gather your digital pictures and videos. This is definitely a high tech system, and it is used by the US and Canadian Border Patrol agencies to gather surveillance for their border control efforts.

While this is very cool technology, I have a hard time getting past the price tag of $1899. It does come with a 1 year warranty, but if I'm going to pay $1,899 for a game camera, I'd like to see it come with at least a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, like the Jeep I purchased from a local dealer.

As other game camera manufacturers enter the remote game camera market with lower cost cellular options (like Moultrie with their Game Spy Connect), I see the Orion PC Base Camera Kit being a tough sell. I think that there will always be a market out there for high end products, because there are people out there with more money than they know what to do with. It will be interesting to see if Buckeye Cam continues with their current price model, or if the new cellular game camera options will force them into a price drop. With the Moultrie Game Spy Connect hitting the market in July of 2009, I guess we will see soon.
